Hi, I'm Abdulrahman Sultan

CS student and Developer

About me

I'm a 17-year-old developer from Greater Manchester, currently in Year 13 and starting a Computer Science degree at the University of Manchester. I built Crest, a free open-source hiking route planner for Cumbria. Using a custom A* pathfinding algorithm with elevation awareness and OSM tags, it generates sensible hiking routes that take terrain into account, I'm passionate about solving problems that affect me and people around me, whether it's making hiking more accessible or building useful tools from scratch.

I'm always looking to solve people's problems by creating user-focused software.

Crest

A custom A* algorithm plans realistic hiking routes in Cumbria using elevation data and OSM tags (sac_scale, trail_visibility, surface).

Users can generate automatic routes, manually plot paths, save points of interest, and export routes as GPX or GeoJSON. Built as my A-Level Computer Science NEA project.

It features elevation-aware routing using Naismith's rule as well as terrain based difficulty settings using OSM tags
